Evergreen Privacy Policy
The short version. Evergreen has no accounts. Your plants, photos, care schedule, and streaks live on your phone. Photos leave your phone only when you ask Evergreen to identify a plant, check its health, or send one in the Ask chat, and they go to the AI services that do that work. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps.
What stays on your phone
Everything you create in Evergreen is stored on your device: the plants in your garden, their photos, watering and rotation schedules, your streak history, and the answers you gave during onboarding (your first name, how many plants you have, where you live, your climate, how green your thumb is, and how much time you want to spend). Watering reminders are scheduled locally by iOS. None of this is uploaded to an Evergreen server, because there isn't one that stores user data.
If you save a streak celebration image, Evergreen writes it to your photo library. That's the only time it adds anything to your photos.
What leaves your phone, and where it goes
Plant photos, for identification and health checks. When you tap Identify or run a health check, the photo you chose is sent to Evergreen's server, which forwards it to the service doing the analysis and returns the answer. Evergreen's server does not store the photo. Depending on the feature, the photo goes to:
- Plant.id by Kindwise, for plant identification. See the Plant.id privacy policy.
- OpenAI, for identification, care plans, health diagnosis, and the Ask chat. Requests go through OpenAI's API, and OpenAI states that API inputs are not used to train its models. See the OpenAI privacy policy.
Try not to photograph things you'd rather keep private. A leaf is all the AI needs.
Chat messages, for the Ask tab. When you send a message in Ask, that message, any photo you attach, the recent conversation, and a summary of the plants in your garden (their names, species, care schedules, and latest health and light checks) plus your onboarding answers are sent through Evergreen's server to OpenAI so it can answer about your actual plants. The conversation is saved only on your phone; Evergreen's server does not store it. "New chat" clears it.
Plant names, for care data. When Evergreen looks up care details for a plant, it sends the plant's name (text only, no photo) to Perenual's plant database.
An anonymous install ID. Evergreen generates a random ID the first time it runs and sends it with each request to our server so we can limit how many requests one install can make per minute. The ID is not tied to your name, Apple ID, or device serial number. Our server keeps a request counter for that ID for at most two days, then it expires. Like any web server, ours briefly sees your IP address while handling a request; we don't store it.
Subscription and paywall data, via Superwall. Evergreen Premium is sold through Apple, and Apple handles payment. We never see your card or billing details. To show the subscription screen and remember whether you're subscribed, Evergreen uses Superwall. Superwall receives an anonymous user ID, basic device information (such as iOS version, device model, language, and app version), and your purchase and trial events. To personalize the subscription screen, Evergreen also shares your onboarding answers with Superwall: your first name, plant count, ownership status, living environment, climate, green-thumb level, and time commitment. See the Superwall privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No accounts, passwords, or email sign-up.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
- No selling or renting of your data. Ever.
- No analytics beyond what's described above.
Permissions Evergreen asks for
- Camera and Photos, to photograph or pick a plant for identification and health checks.
- Add to Photos, only to save a streak celebration image when you choose to.
- Notifications, for watering and rotation reminders. These are scheduled on your phone and never pass through a server.
You can change any of these later in the iOS Settings app.
Deleting your data
Open Evergreen, go to Settings, and tap Delete Account. This erases every plant, photo, schedule, streak, chat, and onboarding answer from your phone and resets the anonymous Superwall identity, so the next person on the device starts fresh. Deleting the app does the same for on-device data.
Our server holds nothing about you beyond the expiring request counter described above. If you'd like Superwall or an AI provider to delete data connected to your install, email us and we'll make the request on your behalf.
Your Apple subscription is managed by Apple. Cancel it any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Children
Evergreen isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change what Evergreen collects or who it's shared with, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and the app will link to the new version.
